Tomasz Strahl & Krzysztof Jabłoński
The pianist Krzysztof
Jabłoński and the cellist Tomasz Strahl started to perform as the
Chopin Duo in 2003, having obtained permission from the Ministry of
Culture to use the name of Fryderyk Chopin. They met for the first
time in 1999 performing of music to a ballet entitled
Fortepianissimo, produced in Warsaw’s Grand Theatre and National
Opera to mark the 150th anniversary of Chopin’s death. The success

Their recitals have graced
such occasions as the presentation of the Jan Nowak-Jeziorański
Prize to Tadeusz Mazowiecki and the conferring of the honorary
doctorate of Warsaw’s Music Academy on the conductor Jerzy Semkow.
Together with the violinist Konstanty Andrzej Kulka, the artists
gave a recital during the concert ‘Poland for Europe’ to mark
Poland’s accesion to the European Union. In May 2005 the Chopin Duo
inaugurated a series of concerts in Valldemosa, Majorca, within the
framework of Polish Days marking the first anniversary of Poland’s
membership in the E.U. The repertoire of the Chopin Duo spans music from the Classical period to the present. In addition to works by Beethoven, Chopin (the complete chamber output), Franck, Rachmaninov, Richard Strauss and Szymanowski, it includes many cycles and miniatures, as well as music specially arranged for piano and cello. The duo is also keen to perform works by masters of other genres (Astor Piazzolla) and to promote the output of Polish 19th and 20th-century composers (Zygmunt Stojowski, Ludomir Różycki, Witold Szalonek, Tadeusz Paciorkiewicz, Witold Lutosławski, Aleksander Tansman and Piotr Moss).
In addition to performing as the Chopin Duo, Krzysztof Jabłoński and Tomasz Strahl have developed a successful worldwide career as soloists and members of various chamber ensembles. The Chopin Duo often invites outstanding musicians for the performances of trios, quartets and quintets. Konstanty Andrzej Kulka has established the closest association with the duo.
