On Debussy's Preludes
"Wojciech Świtała has again been in the news for the past few years; this is on account of his excellent recording of Debussy's Preludes. These impressionistic miniatures are perfectly suited to his sublime and delicate pianistic skills. There is something highly personal and seductive in his playing. There is an atmosphere, a soothing quality and a conscious rejection of virtuosity. Świtała prefers whispering to shouting and concentration to tension. He delights in textural nuances, in maximising their dynamic and colouristic qualities. Świtała has discovered a Debussy of 'his own' but first of all he has discovered his own style and sound. In today's world dominated by the competition of 'soulless automated machines', this says a great deal about his artistry."
