What the critics say:    RUCH MUZYCZNY No 24/2004

About the album Vivaldi's The Four Seasons

"This is a very good record, which - even though recorded by musicians of high renown - should be reviewed in the 'surprise' category. The recording of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons by Kuba Jakowicz and a dozen or so instrumentalists from Sinfonia Varsovia fulfils most of the expectations which can be placed on performers of this famous work. We have here sound painting, a refined selection of expressive devices, a sense of virtuosity, technical precision and above all a genuine resolve to respect the composer's intentions. An impression of surprise becomes all the greater when it is realised that the solo part is performed by a young violinist. In addition to youthful freshness and imagination, Kuba Jakowicz's playing is characterised by an excellent grasp of the requirements of the Baroque style. It is evident in the ornamentation and, in a more general sense, 'affection'. Jakowicz never goes beyond good taste and does not yield to the temptation of juggling with all manner of gimmicks. Being well aware of the romantic predilection of our violinists, I am full of admiration for the noble manner in which Jakowicz develops the cantilena [...] Kuba Jakowicz should be treated in the category of mature performers.
The orchestral parts are played by member of Sinfonia Varsovia in an interesting way, with precision, a high degree of technical fluency and a good sense of ensemble, thanks to which the ritornellos are given the much-needed brightness and virtuosic mastery.
