What the critics say:    RUCH MUZYCZNY No 26/2004

About the CD of Lutosławski's music in the series The Pearls of Polish Music  -  SACD&CD

"BeArTon's fifth record in the series The Pearls of Polish Music is devoted to Witold Lutosławski. It is at the same time the first record in the series recorded in SACD technology, which - with proper equipment - ensures extraordinary aural impressions.
The strongest asset of BeArTon's recording is Sinfonia Varsovia under the baton of Jerzy Maksymiuk. By and large, it sounds excellently, notably in the Concerto for Orchestra, but also in the Paganini Variations. The ensemble has proved to be a very sensitive instrument, capable of producing nothing short of virtuoso fireworks. In the Concerto, the listener is spell-bound by an extravaganza of timbral colours in the dialogues between instrumental groups (Lutosławski's mastery of instrumentation was already at that time on a par with Ravel) and the meticulously crafted details of the chamber sections (e.g. the double-bass with the piano and solo woodwinds). The Concerto has some simply wonderful fragments, whether they are judged by 20th or 21st-century standards. ..."
