Description

As an enthusiast of the Italian belcanto- especially by Verdi I wondered about the influence of his operas on the great piano virtuosos of his time. On this CD you will find paraphrases of three of the greatest pianist virtuosos of Verdi`s era: Franz Liszt (1811-1886), his greatest pianist competitor Sigismund Thalberg ( 1812- 1871) […] and Hans von Bűlow ( 1830-1894), his master student, an excellent pianist and conductor. Currently, nearly all works of this CD – except Liszt`s Rigoletto – are lost in oblivion. But I think some of them are worth being performed in the concert halls again. To make the works clear and vivid to the listener, I have related the music to the particular fragments of the libretto ( in CD book). […]

If you love Verdi`s operas, I hope you are – as I am – curious about the transcriptions of his contemporaries. Or, maybe are now interested – also because of the paraphrases on this CD – to listen to the original versions of Verdi`s operas?
